The government meets with the cultural sector to work on the artist’s statute

Yesterday, Wednesday, February 5, the president of the federation, Soco Collado, attended the event convened by the Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, together with the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, as a meeting with the performing, audiovisual and musical arts sector for the presentation of the main new features of the proposal to regulate the working conditions of artists, technicians and assistants.

The president of the Federation, Soco Collado, participated yesterday, Wednesday, February 5, in an event convened by the Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, along with the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun. The meeting, aimed at the performing, audiovisual, and musical arts sectors, aimed to present the main new developments in the proposed regulation of the working conditions of artists, technicians, and assistants.

The event was also attended by the Secretary of State for Culture, Jordi Grau; the Director of Cultural Rights, Jazmín Beirak; the Director General of Labor, Ricardo Morón; and the Secretary of State for Youth and Children, Rubén Pérez.

During the meeting, the key points of the proposed amendment to Royal Decree 1435/1985, which regulates the special employment relationship of artists in public performances, were discussed. This update is part of the reforms to the Artist Statute and seeks to improve working conditions in the sector.

Among the main highlights of the reform are:

The inclusion of harassment and equality protocols.

Regulation of child labor in the sector.

Inclusion of references to intellectual property rights, including the artist’s will in assignment agreements and the remuneration of said rights.

Regulation of the express authorization of artists for the transfer of their image, voice, and other rights in the use of artificial intelligence.

Definition of effective working time.

Adjustments to remuneration, including the proration of compensation and vacations.

Improved rights to information, guaranteeing prior notification or commissioning of work.

Establishment of a full-time commitment agreement.

Creation of a commission to evaluate and support the professional transition of artists.

Formation of a study commission and proposals for the reform of the system of sectoral representation in collective bargaining.

This meeting promises to be a key step toward updating and improving labor regulations in the artistic sector, guaranteeing more equitable rights and conditions for its professionals.
