The Government approves the creation of the General Directorate of Performing Arts and Music to reorganize the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM)

The Government took a decisive step on Tuesday in modernizing INAEM with the approval of a new structure that will take over the management and promotion of music, theater, dance and circus, while the autonomous body remains focused on artistic production and exhibition.

The Council of Ministers approved the creation of the General Directorate of Performing Arts and Music within the Ministry of Culture on Tuesday, November 11. This new directorate will be responsible for promoting, disseminating, and managing grants, awards, and subsidies for the performing arts and music sectors. According to the official statement, the aim is to “update, optimize, and improve the organizational, management, and personnel structure” of the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM).

This new entity will have three specialized sub-directorates: one for Theater and Circus, another for Music, and a third for Dance and Interdisciplinary Creation. It will also incorporate a division for archives, documentation, and management of performing arts and musical heritage. According to the Minister of Culture, the reform will be carried out “in stages,” this being the first milestone in a broader process that seeks to adapt the INAEM (National Institute of Performing Arts and Music) to the realities of the 21st-century cultural sector. Appointments are expected to be made and the operational details of the new organizational structure finalized in the coming months.
