The State Council for the Performing Arts and Music has been the stage in which the Ministry of Culture has made explicit the political and sectoral scope of the new General Directorate approved on November 11.
The most visible change this year has been the creation of the General Directorate of Performing Arts and Music, which assumes responsibility for the promotion, dissemination, sector coordination, and management of grants for music, theater, dance, and circus, ending decades of a shared structure. Thanks to this reform, the INAEM (National Institute of Performing Arts and Music) has been able to distribute €63.1 million in grants and subsidies, awarding 948 competitive grants within its €18.1 million budget.
Furthermore, the commitment to decentralization translates into intense activity throughout the territory: almost 700 performances outside the venue, programs such as Platea with performances in 152 spaces in 16 communities, and circuits such as Girando Por Salas, Circo a Escena or Danza a Escena reaching dozens of provinces, have brought shows to thousands of municipalities.
Internationally, INAEM has signed seven agreements with national and international institutions, funding 95 performances abroad with an investment of €620,000, and taking its shows to 32 countries with nearly 60,000 spectators outside of Spain. With this combination of economic boost, territorial expansion, and international reach, the organization is repositioning itself as a central pillar of state cultural policy in the 21st century.
