Cultura Launches 2026 Grants for Music and Lyric Arts with Over €4.5 Million in Funding

The call will remain open until April 20 and includes funding for tours, festivals, lyric seasons, residencies, and commissioned compositions.

The Ministry of Culture launched on March 27 the 2026 call for grants supporting music and lyric arts. The initiative, managed by the Directorate General for Performing Arts and Music under the authority of the State Secretariat for Culture, follows the publication of its extract in the Official State Gazette (BOE) and represents one of the main state-level public funding mechanisms for the music sector. Its purpose is to support both the creation and circulation of projects across the entire territory.

These annually awarded grants aim to preserve musical and lyrical heritage while promoting its dissemination both within Spain and internationally. In addition, they seek to strengthen cultural ties between autonomous communities, improve public access to culture, and contribute to the development and consolidation of audiences.

The total maximum budget amounts to €4,507,250, allocated to projects implemented nationwide. The application period will remain open until April 20, and submissions must be completed exclusively online through the Ministry of Culture’s electronic headquarters.

Tours, Festivals, and Programming as Core Pillars

The call includes a wide range of support lines that directly impact the live music ecosystem. These include funding for national and international tours by artists and ensembles, support for festivals, showcases, and conferences abroad, backing for lyric seasons, as well as artistic residencies and commissioned compositions. It also provides support for non-profit organizations in the sector and encourages musical activity across various programming contexts.

Overall, the grants are structured into six main categories: tours within Spain; support for state-level non-profit organizations; festivals, showcases, conferences, and residencies; lyric seasons; commissioned compositions linked to premieres; and internationalization and tours abroad.

Maximum funding amounts per project vary depending on the category, ranging from €12,000 for commissioned compositions to €140,000 for certain festivals, particularly those primarily focused on flamenco.

This framework positions the call as a key instrument for fostering mobility, programming, and the international projection of musical activity.

Funding Limits

As a general rule, grants may not exceed 65% of the total project cost. However, exceptions apply: up to 80% for state-level non-profit entities made up of associations (category 2), and up to 100% for commissioned compositions linked to premieres (category 5).

Support for the Cultural Sector

Beyond financing specific projects, these grants are designed to stimulate the circulation and dissemination of music and lyric arts across the territory. Their objectives include promoting artistic mobility, enhancing repertoire visibility, and improving public access to culture.

The call also incorporates criteria related to the national and international projection of projects, as well as their ability to connect different regions and audiences.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible applicants include natural or legal persons, both public and private, established in any member state of the European Union or the European Economic Area, under equal conditions. Entities resident in jurisdictions classified as tax havens under current regulations are excluded.
