Content: The Ministry of Culture announced last Monday a comprehensive reform of the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM) to improve its management and modernize its organizational structure. As part of this restructuring, the General Directorate of Performing Arts and Music will be created, which will separate responsibilities for artistic production and exhibition from those related to promotion, heritage, and sectoral coordination.

Ernest Urtasun explained that this measure is the first step in a modernization process long demanded by the sector. “This is the first step in the reform of the INAEM in 40 years,” Urtasun assured the media. The INAEM, unchanged since 1985, attempted to be reformed during the term of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

The current Director General of INAEM, Paz Santa Cecilia, will also assume this new responsibility, in order to implement this restructuring. Paz Santa Cecilia emphasized that the new Directorate General of Performing Arts and Music will not only address economic issues but will also place a special focus on dance and circus. In this regard, she enthusiastically announced the creation of the Office for the Diffusion of Dance (ODD), an initiative aimed at promoting this art form, with special attention to its mobility both nationally and internationally. According to the Director General, this office seeks to strengthen support for professionals in the sector and facilitate the projection of dance in new settings and markets.
